EasyPark automates parking for DriveNow

When the car sharing service DriveNow launches in Stockholm and Copenhagen – EasyPark is responsible for providing the innovative technology, which makes it possible for consumers to start and finish their ride without having to worry about paying parking fees on-site. EasyPark’s technology handles this automatically.

DriveNow, the car sharing joint venture of the BMW Group and Sixt, is available in various European cities and offers a range of vehicles from the BMW and MINI brands to rent, based on the free-floating principle. The vehicles can be hired and returned independent of location within a defined business area. The service has recently been launched in Stockholm and Copenhagen. Users pay 4.50 SEK / 3.95 DKK per minute to drive and park the hired car anywhere on the street within specified areas in Stockholm and Copenhagen.

If our car sharing service is to work as smoothly as we want it to, parking fees must be handled automatically. EasyPark is the company that has made the most progress in the market, with a fully automated solution that makes this possible for us, says Fredrik Ellsäter, CEO of DriveNow in Sweden.

Innovative parking solution
As a part of the cooperation, EasyPark created an innovative technical solution that enables the DriveNow-user to easily and conveniently park without having to focus on handling coins or searching for parking meters. The solution is integrated into the car, and handles the beginning and end of parking automatically.

Users for any car sharing programs, their need is to be able to park anywhere near their destination. Which is hard to achieve if the parking provider do not have the broad coverage with different parking operators or adjacent cities.

To meet DriveNow’s needs, we have created a technical solution that enables the concept without creating a fuss about the little unnecessary details. As the parking system is fully automated, the user doesn’t need to think about anything other than to park in a parking-friendly zone; the system will solve the rest. With our connected technology, the car senses where it is when you park, and it senses when you leave the parking lot, says Johan Birgersson, CEO of Easy Park Group.

EasyPark is the company, by far with the best coverage in both Stockholm and Copenhagen. We have about 11 contracts in greater Copenhagen and 13 contracts in greater Stockholm to ensure this needs are met. We have five times better coverage than our competitors, says Johan Birgersson.

Similar technology is also available for EasyPark’s app users. The latest version of the app senses if you leave the parking lot without logging out from your parking session; you then receive a reminder that you should log out to stop paying.
